A Living System

Neuron

Iris' Serving Technology

Neuron is the engine that powers the Iris platform.
A high-performance ad server built from the ground up for volume and speed, Neuron is the brain of the Iris ecosystem, directing Iris’ campaign targeting and content optimization. Neuron also collects Iris’ detailed performance and engagement metrics and processes them in near real-time to give you deep insight into your video advertising’s effectiveness. Neuron has three basic parts: Data Warehouse, Ad Server, and Event Capture (Reporting). Our internal tracking website, RedZone, works in tandem with Neuron to communicate reports to the Data Warehouse, and set up instructions to the ad server. Neuron serves the ad, and the events are then collected by the Synapse technology while the ad runs via the Iris Video Player.

Synapse

Iris' Tracking Technology

Synapse is RMM’s real-time engagement tracking system and is built into every Iris Video Player.
Every single action performed by a user in the Iris
Video Player is captured, categorized, and fully available to you as your campaign runs. Everything from the simple things like clicks and impressions to detailed video and creative interactions is seamlessly bubbled up and captured by Neuron for use in optimizing your campaign and understanding your audience’s behavior. Think of Synapse as a wrapper for rich media ad units that collect events and data generated by Flash-based creatives running in a browser. Once collected, Synapse packages up the data and sends it to the Neuron ad server. Events captured by Synapse range from simple status events like ad load to user-generated events like mouse-overs and button-clicks. Beyond all the practical advantages of using Synapse, these ads require no additional configuration and can be deployed similarly to other ad units.

This is a sample list of the metrics captured by Synapse on every ad impression:

unitload Upon initialization
engage Sent (only) the first time the user moves or clicks mouse within the ad unit
ping Sent once per second for the first 10 minutes. The ad_id changes in the case of Iris.
